Wikidata and Health: Current situation and perspectives
Wikimania 2019

Created in 2012, Wikidata has evolved as a high-scale structured ontological database representing the sum of all human knowledge due to its ability of represent all kinds of information in form of triples. Due to its characteristics, Wikidata has an increasing diversity of use cases including health support. In this panel, we will introduce Wikidata as a useful resource for medicine through the explanation of its data model and statistical analysis of the medical entities, labels, descriptions and relations provided by the database. Then, we will give an overview of how Wikidata's medical knowledge can be used and processed for a variety of purposes such as clinical decision support, biomedical data integration and semantic interoperability between biomedical computer systems. Finally, we will propose PubMed-based bibliometric-enhanced information retrieval methods to ameliorate the quality of medical information in Wikidata and discuss their efficiency.
