Radio Ironie Orchester - data flows
PrivacyWeek 2021

Das Radio Ironie Orchester ist ein Kollektiv von Künstler*innen, die über das Internet mithilfe freier Softwaretools zusammen spielen und dabei verschiedene Mittel und Formen (digitaler) Kommunikation erkunden.

In 2019, RIO (Radio Ironie Orchestra) started as a loose collective of musicians, artists and performers coming together at the Graz-based community radio station Radio Helsinki to explore new ways of collaborating in the medium of radio. RIO employs a (cyber-)feminist approach of grassroot community building, playful hacking and ab-using open source digital tools, and collective artmaking in a fluxus-like manner. Its name draws on the tradition of the radio symphony orchestras, their prestigious idea of collective musicking in and for an auditory public. When the pandemic hit, RIO expanded into an international network of performers using internet-based tools for joint music-making. Since then, the group has performed at several radio stations and festivals in France, UK, Austria and Germany, including a live appearance on a TV show. For Privacyweek 2021, RIO will develop a performance on the topic "data flows", employing different tools and instruments (texts, software/hardware, acoustic instruments, objects) to convert data flows into audible, tangible and communicative processes. An improvised sound journey with a risk & fun attitude! Participants include: Lale Rodgarkia-Dara, Nicole Sabella, Christopher Williams, Jadi Carboni, Mohadese Siasar, Antonia Manhartsberger, Georg Wissa, Adina Camhy, Peter Venus, Reni Hofmüller, Cosima Hubner, Margarethe Maierhofer-Lischka, Marie Vermont (to be continued - we often have spontaneous guests and open collaborators)
