JVM startup: why it matters to the new world order
FOSDEM 2018

The software development world has changed. With trends like continuous integration and cloud scaling of workloads, deployments come fast and furious (and frequent!). Is Java too big and slow to play in the new world? Never fear! Learn how the Eclipse OpenJ9 JVM has been approaching these challenges using SharedClasses, dynamic AOT now and some of the projects future directions.</div>

OpenJ9's SharedClasses cache is similar to OpenJDK's CDS but takes a more dynamic approach. This talk will introduce some of the feature of the Eclipse OpenJ9 JVM that help it provide high performance while making efficient use of memory. This session will explain why these tradeoffs are critical for cloud deployments
