Biography

Douglas is a Software Developer working as a part of the Open Microscopy Environment Consortium, based in The Department of Biochemistry, University of Oxford.

Douglas Russell joined the OME project in May, 2012 as a software developer embedded in a microscopy/biological group at the University of Oxford. His remit is to promote and improve OMERO in-the-field and to develop useful applications that extend or make use of OMERO. Douglas has an MEng in Cybernetics & Computer Science from the University of Reading and has nearly 10 years of research and teaching experience mostly in the University of Oxford's, Department of Computer Science. He is currently working on web applications and scripting for OMERO. His current areas of interest including distributed computing, computer security, design patterns and interface design. Douglas has a long history as an open source software user and contributor stretching back to the turn of the century when he was a developer of Gentoo Linux. Douglas also enjoys reading, cooking, skiing, snowboarding, trekking and visiting foreign cultures whenever he gets the opportunity.
