A presentation on the new Toitū Te Whenua Land Information New Zealand (LINZ) LiDAR QC command line application that has been developed using open-source software and libraries, including Python, GDAL, PDAL, and LASTools.
The command line application was developed to improve LiDAR data quality checking (QC) processes, as part of the National Elevation Program. The aim has been to simplify and optimise processing the LiDAR data for region scale datasets, so our analysts can be more efficient in their QC work.
This presentation will go into the workflow and libraries used in the first command on the application, check-dataset. This tool collects metadata from each point cloud and raster file in a dataset, runs a series of checks on the information based on LINZ specifications, and outputs the results in a geopackage for a comprehensive review by our location data analysts.
