Wikidata is a new Wikimedia project that builds a free and open knowledgebase of structured data for Wikipedia and the world. We want to take a look back and talk about what we learned while building the project and take a look at what is coming in the future.

Wikidata is a new Wikimedia project that builds a free and open knowledgebase of structured data for Wikipedia and the world. The development started 2 years ago. Since then the project has grown rapidly. The project has taken off, a large community has gathered around it and a diverse 3rd-party ecosystem around it is growing. We want to take a look back and talk about what we learned while building the project and take a look at what is coming in the future for Wikimedia's shooting star.

What is Semantic MediaWiki, what can it do for me, and why is it not on Wikipedia yet?

Semantic MediaWiki (SMW) is a free, open-source extension to MediaWiki – the wiki software that powers Wikipedia – that lets you store and query data within the wiki's pages. Semantic MediaWiki is also a full-fledged framework, in conjunction with many spinoff extensions, that can turn a wiki into a powerful and flexible “collaborative database”. All data created within SMW can easily be published via the Semantic Web, allowing other systems to use this data seamlessly.
