I'm Olliver, an Austrian born Dutchman.
The first Linux contact I had was with Red-Hat 5.2 in 1998, but didn't really know what I was doing or how to use things. Dial-up was the only way to the internet for me back then so looking things up wasn't easy. I quickly gave up. In 1999 I took the plunge, since we finally got 'cable' at home and booted Slackware 7.0 on my first server, an old P90. From there the desktop went a few months later and in 2004 I switched to Gentoo, which I still run to this day on nearly all my boxen.
Always having been into software, hardware and electronics always had its appeal. While Lego's where interesting to assemble as a child, later disassembling electronic devices to hack them at a later age was a big hobby. No stranger to soldering I assembled several devices.
Embedded development seems to lay somewhere nicely in between, more software, with a strong hint to hardware. AVR's and SoC's is where I like to be. Small and efficient, but most importantly open source.
