In this talk, I will present zbus, a D-Bus crate written from scratch. D-Bus is an inter-process communication mechanism, available and used on almost all modern Linux desktops and many embedded systems. I will start with why I felt the need to take this huge undertaking on my shoulders, followed by the design goals, the challenges faced and how I overcame them during the development.

In this talk, Zeeshan will share his story of development of Geoclue, the open source geolocation service for Linux. He'll talk about the challenges and setbacks faced during these years in developing a framework designed to provide a simple API to application developers while also addressing the privacy issues related to giving out users' location to random applications. Also presented will be the current big problems faced by the project and possible solutions to them.

GStreamer is a popular framework of choice for multimedia programming in the Linux world, especially for embedded. Since efficiency is a typical core requirement for embedded solutions, traditionally C/C++ have been the languages of choice for writing GStreamer applications and plugins. Unfortunately, this efficiency comes at the price of safety. Even the most skilled C/C++ developers make mistakes with memory management and the results could potentially be catastrophic. Thread safety is another aspect that is central to multimedia solutions but is extremely difficult to achieve with C/C++.

Rust language is designed to be both efficient and safe at the same time. In this talk, Zeeshan will present how GStreamer's Rust bindings not only make multimedia programming a lot safer, easier and fun but also allow developers to write even more efficient code than C/C++ in certain cases.

A quick introduction to the unique memory management concepts of Rust.

Rust is a systems programming language that focuses on safety and performance at the same time. Most people new to Rust, often struggle with memory management. The goal of this talk is to give a very quick overview of Rust's memory management.

A number of new components have matured in GENIVI to provide a true connected car experience. A couple of them are key connectivity components; namely SOTA (Software Over the Air) and RVI (Remote Vehicle Interface). This talk will discuss both these components, how they work together, the security work done on them and their integration into the GENIVI Development Platform.

This talk will also run down the overall status of GENIVI's development platform and how it can enable an automotive stack to speak not just with the cloud, but with IoT devices via Iotivity interface. The new GENIVI Development Platform (GDP) technical lead, Zeeshan Ali, will give the talk.

In this talk, I'll be presenting the tools (geoclue, geocode-glib and GNOME Maps) we have been slowing creating to make GNOME fully geo-aware and and how these tools harness existing open source and open data projects out there. While our focus has been GNOME, most of these tools are very much generic and could (and IMO should) be used by other Linux-based system.

Boxes is a GNOME 3 application that aims to make management of virtual and remote machines very easy. As an important part of that goal, Boxes not only makes it possible to create a virtual machine in a few clicks, given an installation media but it also gives user a choice to launch automated (AKA unattended) installation of operating system in question on it.

As an important part of that goal, Boxes not only makes it possible to create a virtual machine in a few clicks, given an installation media but it also gives user a choice to launch automated (AKA unattended) installation of operating system in question on it. Such an installation require minimum user input at the beginning and none during installation.

The presentation will start with a brief introduction to Boxes and automated installations with the help of live demos from an end-user's perspective. Next, application developers in the audience shall be explained how they can easily add support for automated installations in their applications using libosinfo. In the end we go behind the scene and see how support for new operating systems can be added to libosinfo (and therefore every application using it).

Boxes is a new GNOME application to create and access local and remote systems, such as virtual machines or remote desktop. A local machine is powered by KVM & Spice, and you can access remote desktop via libvirt, SPICE and VNC (and more coming). Boxes is made for you, developers, contributors, and users of application running on other systems. During this talk we will demo latest version and describe the design of Boxes. We will discuss the importance of Boxes as part of the GNOME project. Finally, a list of missing features and the roadmap for the next cycle will be presented.
