With RCS forecasted to grow to 3.8 billion subscribers by 2026 (a 300%+ growth from today's population of 1.2 billion, according to Juniper Research), Instant Messaging (IM) in SIP is becoming increasingly more important.

SIP is more than voice and video, it is also Instant Messaging and Presence. Even if traditional SIP services are more voice-focused, Instant Messaging (IM) has gained a lot of traction in the context of IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) and Unified Communications (UC).

The Call API is a management front-end for OpenSIPS 3.1+ SIP servers, aiming to abstract the SIP layer and to simplify the management of more advanced SIP call flows. Moreover, it enables event-driven architectures by providing real-time events on the handled call scenarios.

The OpenSIPS 3.1 major release is not just about one piece of software, rather an entire ecosystem! After the recently introduced opensips-cli console environment, aimed at improving the interaction with an OpenSIPS 3.0+ server, we are proud to introduce the Call API -- a responsive, fully asynchronous, high-throughput API, built to abstract all the complexity behind the more arcane SIP calling scenarios (think click-to-dial scenarios, blind transfers, attended transfers, etc.) into intuitive, easy-to-invoke JSON-RPC commands.

The first half of the presentation will include an architectural overview of the API. You will learn how to interact with it, how the API further interacts with the OpenSIPS backend, as well as some best practices on writing API clients in your favourite programming language.

In the second half, you will learn about the specific SIP scenarios exposed by the API, how they work behind the curtains and what kind of services you can build on top of them.

OpenSIPS 3.0 embraces the cloud movement with open arms and aims to be easier to deploy and a lot more enjoyable to maintain. You can now automate routing logic updates to hundreds of instances with a single click, thanks to the long-awaited ability to reload the routing script which is finally here!

Individual running instances of OpenSIPS 3.0 are now capable of automatically upscaling or downscaling themselves according to the volume of traffic that is running through them. By auto-forking more SIP worker processes during peak day hours and un-forking them at night, OpenSIPS 3.0 maintains steady performance while minimizing the costs of the cloud instances which host it.

Say goodbye to "opensipsctl" and meet the new Python3-based tool for managing 3.x instances: "opensips-cli". While retaining the majority of features of its predecessor, opensips-cli builds upon them, adding an intuitive way of interacting with multiple instances, the ability to filter, trace and troubleshoot specific calls which take place on any of them or to ask for an instance diagnosis, which will instantly pinpoint issues such as insufficient memory, slow SQL/NoSQL service, slow DNS service, overflowing UDP queues and many more!

This talk will present the challenges encountered when building highly available, multi-node SIP platforms and how they are solved using a modern OpenSIPS release.

For those aiming to build a high capacity SIP service involving clusterized nodes running in a unified manner, this is a must-attend talk! During the presentation, we will enumerate the major types of issues that might pop up when architecting multiple SIP proxy instance setups and how OpenSIPS completely shatters them, making the management of such platforms a piece of cake!

An in-depth view of the feature set of the upcoming OpenSIPS 2.4 clustering support (release due March 2018!). Built with targets in mind such as flexibility, robustness, stability and ease-of-use while also being easy to provision and reuse by higher-level modules, the latest OpenSIPS cluster is better than ever!

Join this talk if you want to get a good understanding on what the OpenSIPS clustering support is and how it works. Starting with the architecture and requirements of the communications system as a whole, the presentation will continue with the runtime behavior for the cluster. This will teach you what to expect from an OpenSIPS cluster, how to dynamically resize it and how it behaves in the eventuality of cross-site network link failures.

In the second half, we will dissect a natural use case for the clustering support: a distributed SIP user location service. There are a couple of interesting problems associated with this type of service (NAT traversal, SIP contact pinging, etc.), both of which become a lot more straight-forward to solve using an underlying clustering engine.

When moving from a linear processing architecture to an event-oriented one, OpenSIPS becomes able to handle more advanced SIP scenarios, as well as to perform complex integrations with external applications.

The new OpenSIPS version follows a Subscribe/Notify model, which allows the SIP routing to be driven by events. These events are triggered from both inside and outside OpenSIPS, and are internally dispatched by OpenSIPS to the right process/subscriber.

During this presentation, I will show how the asynchronous architecture revamp of the upcoming OpenSIPS 2.3 facilitates a series of state-of-the-art integrations (SIP transaction pausing while push notifications are taking effect, custom suspend-resume logic while waiting for an external event, etc.).

The discussion will also include OpenSIPS scripting, and how we tweaked it to incorporate all these changes in a simple, straightforward, and efficient manner.
