Allan Jude is VP of Operations at ScaleEngine Inc. where he is in charge of managing the global network of servers that make up the ScaleEngine CDN. He also hosts the weekly podcasts BSDNow and TechSNAP. FreeBSD user since 2.2 and sysadmin since 4.5. Allan became a FreeBSD Docs committer in 2014 and a src committer in 2015, he is working to document ZFS and bhyve, as well as converting various configuration files to a new universal format.
Allan started his sysadmin career in 2000 and by 2002 was running a successful IRC shell provider based on FreeBSD. Working as a consultant during and after college, Allan was later invited to teach Unix Administration and Unix Security at Mohawk College in 2007. In 2009 Allan and one of his former professors started ScaleEngine, a FreeBSD based IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service) provider which eventually added CDN and Video Streaming services. On a day to day basis Allan is responsible for the operations of 100+ FreeBSD servers spread across 38 data centres in 11 countries. Allan makes extensive use of OpenZFS to manage more than 1000 TB of storage, as well as maintaining sysutils/zxfer for managing ZFS replication. Recently, his focus has been on implementing libUCL in various tools in the base system and bhyveucl.
