As an academic, consultant, and entrepreneur, I have participated in and contributed to a variety of FOSS, including TWiki, Drupal, TikiWiki, Moodle, and MuseScore. I have also supervised students who participated in and contributed to FOSS in multiple areas. I am a team member for the NSF-funded OpenPath project, which develops learning pathways to help students learn about and participate in Humanitarian FOSS, and thereby develop knowledge and skills they will need in other courses and the workforce. The OpenPath team runs POSSE (see description) to help faculty learn about and guide students to participate in FOSS. I am also a leader in Process Oriented Guided Inquiry Learning (POGIL), a classroom approach in which students work in teams that are guided to discover key concepts and practice important skills. In the last 10 years I have led over 70 interactive workshops for faculty across the US and in other countries (e.g. India, Ghana, Switzerland). I have been recognized for my work by Red Hat, Inc. and the National Center for Women & IT (NCWIT).
