Biography

Tom Barbette is a Post-Doc at the Networked Systems lab of Dejan Kostic at KTH, in Sweden since he defended his Ph.D. thesis in 2018 at the Université de Liège in Belgium.

In 2015, he published FastClick, a new version of the Click Modular Router, integrating high-speed I/O framework such as DPDK, along with modern packet processing techniques that led to a modular and flexible NFV framework, still used today by many researchers to prototype various networking designs. To reach 100G networking, he developed Metron to avoid software classification, and offload some processing in hardware switches. He then tackled the problem of load balancing, both inside a server with RSS++ to dispatch packets between the many cores of modern servers, and between multiple servers with Cheetah, a new load-balancer a stateless load-balancer that still allows per-connection load balancing.
