ProxySQL is a MySQL protocol aware, high-performance reverse proxy commonly used in MySQL compatible cloud databases. Thanks to these features, ProxySQL offers an extra layer of flexibility and control otherwise very challenging to achieve when designing and adapting your infrastructure to different workloads. In this talk, we aim to discuss how to use these features for being able to lower your required isolation levels and causality checks in a multi-primary Galera cluster, thus attempting to increase the overall performance of the cluster. We will provide concrete examples, benchmarks and extra points on workload adaptability.

As a reverse proxy for MySQL databases, ProxySQL is being used in various infrastructure sizes and it is not surprising to see deployments with thousands of nodes running. Such large deployments introduce some interesting challenges because nodes can be initialized or destroyed at any time. This session will describe the challenges in configuring such large deployments of nodes, the most common external tools to configure ProxySQL, and then focus on improved ProxySQL native clustering solutions that allows auto-discovery, bootstrap, and a distributed decentralized reconfiguration.

Handling tens of thousands of database connections poses seriously performance issues on any database system because resources are poorly utilized. ProxySQL, a MySQL protocol aware, reverse proxy for database servers using the MySQL protocol, is able to track connections statuses and utilize very few connections to MySQL server to serve traffic from thousands of client connections. This session will focus on explaining implementation details and how this algorithm is able to boost performance.

ProxySQL is a MySQL protocol aware, reverse proxy for database servers using the MySQL protocol, ranging from standalone MySQL/MariaDB/Percona, to clustering solution like Galera/PXC and Group Replication, to cloud platforms like RDS and Aurora. It is designed to handle millions of distinct users, millions of connections, and thousands of servers. In this session we will cover the internals that allow to efficiently handle traffic of large scale-out MySQL deployments. During this session we will cover the last development in ProxySQL to support regular expressions and how we can use this strong technique in correlation with the query rules to anonymize live data quickly and transparently.

We will explain the mechanism and how to generate these rules quickly. We show live demo with all challenges we got from the Community and we finish the session by an interactive brainstorm testing queries from the audience.

Features under development are: - read/write split ; - queries caching ; - queries filtering and rewrite ; - logging ; - transparent reconnect ; - connection pooling ; - built-in key/value storage ; - integration with clustering solution like MHA for planned and/or automatic failover; - support for master-slave setups (MySQL replication) or multi-masters (NDB or Galera) .
