Dan is the OmniOS Engineering lead for OmniTI. He has been involved with the illumos community since 2011. Prior to the Solaris diaspora, he was the IPsec project lead and contributing TCP/IP engineer for Solaris and OpenSolaris.
Dan graduated from the University of Michigan in 1991 with a BS, and the University of Arizona in 1993 with an MS, both in Computer Science. He worked for two years at the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, DC. He and his teammates built one of the first IPv6 implementations, and THE first IPsec implementation for 4.4BSD. Dan then joined Solaris Internet Engineering, where he contributed in TCP with RFC 1323 support, and became the project lead for IPsec in Solaris. When Oracle acquired Sun, Dan joined the Solaris Diaspora at the end of 2010, moving to Nexenta Systems. After three years of device drivers, some COMSTAR, and becoming an illumos RTI advocate, Dan took the opportunity to become OmniTI's first full-time OmniOS engineer. Dan has written or co-written three RFCs (1751, 2367, and 5879), and hosted illumos Day as part of the OmniTI Surge Conference.
