Iwi-Cat - an Open Source tool to Support the Use and Management of Iwi Spatial Resources
FOSS4G SOTM Oceania 2023

Does the management and sharing of information present challenges for your organisation? Iwi-Cat provides an intuitive way to organise and use your data collections. Learn how Te Tauihu Iwi are implementing a FOSS4G stack to support cultural and Taiao use cases.

This presentation will demonstrate the use of an open-source geospatial stack to support the needs of Iwi. The issue at hand focused on the difficulty in managing and leveraging information available to the best effect. The solution consists of a stack of software with GeoNetwork opensource at its core with PostGIS and Geoserver in a Tomcat container in Nginx on a Debian based Catalyst Cloud server. QGIS and GeoCAT bridge augment the input of resources. This solution provides a reliable way to manage and utilise cultural and environmental data held by the Iwi and data such as consents and sea level rise information that may impact Iwi cultural and economic resources.
