In 2017, Canonical announced that their flagship Ubuntu desktop product would switch back to providing an optimized GNOME experience. Meanwhile there was a renewed effort for Ubuntu developers to work alongside Debian developers to build the best experience possible for everyone using Ubuntu or Debian. This presentation discusses the recent history and current status of Debian and Ubuntu collaboration in the packaging team. It concludes with a discussion of what works well, where more work is needed, and ideas for the future.
