The Java Community Process (JCP) program has made significant changes over the last 12-18 month period in order to increase community participation in the development of Java Specification Requests (JSR) and to enable greater transparency for the community into the JSR expert groups. Reforms to the JCP through JCP.Next as well as the creation of the Adopt-a-JSR program have enabled this involvement from the community that is vital to the success of Java. The free and open source community now have greater opportunities for contributions and feedback . We will discuss the current state of the nation and ask for feedback and suggestions for greater participation moving forward through the ongoing JCP.Next effort, specifically JSR 358, A major revision to the Java Community Process.
