Session:
Werkstattbericht RDA (S105)The presentation will argue that the cataloguing code
RDA - Resource Description & Access is a tool for finally leaving cataloguing as we use to do in the card catalogue - even though we have had online catalogues for years - and that RDA is a step towards finally embracing the possibilities of online mediation of library resources.
The presentation will include a short review of some the changes in the new version of RDA - both pros and cons.
Also the presentation will argue that a successful adoption of RDA requires international perspective on the code as well as international cooperation in order to get a mutual understanding of the content, improve the content and make further development of the content in the direction of a truly international code - accepted, used and understood in many diverse libraries.
The presentation will refer to EURIG - European RDA Interest Group - as an example of international cooperation.
