Building on Matomo, learn how to use the new Clean Insights SDK from Guardian Project to maximum privacy of your users, while measuring key events to gain valuable insights from your mobile, web and desktop app users.

Clean Insights gives developers a way to plug into secure, private measurement tools built upon Matomo as the back-end. It is focused on assisting in answering key questions about app usage patterns, and not on enabling invasive surveillance of all user habits. Our approach provides programmatic levers to pull to cater to specific use cases and privacy needs. It also provides methods for user interactions that are ultimately empowering instead of alienating. Clean Insights is available as a lightweight, minimal impact, freely licensed toolkit to include in your mobile app, desktop app, website or back-end service. This code can be integrated into your application or service to measure specific events and interactions that you want to gain more insight on. In addition, using the Clean Insights Matomo Proxy (CIMP), these client toolkits can send data to any Matomo Server with additional privacy protections beyond the default SDKs. This workshop will provide a high-level overview of the project and walk through running code of an existing implementation. There will be an opportunity to discuss the process for determining the insights you want to gain, and considerations of how to build an effective, consensual user experience.

Tor is free software for privacy and freedom online; it protects you from tracking, surveillance, and censorship. Over the past year, with the help of a global team of contributors and one-on-one feedback from users around the world, the Tor Project has made major improvements to its software. A handful of Tor contributors will share what progress Tor teams have made, and what challenges they face. They’ll discuss new releases like Tor Browser for Android, usability improvements to Tor Browser, outreach initiatives, Tor network advancements, Tor’s new anti-censorship team, and what’s to come in the next year.

The Tor Project has been hard at work this year building free software to fight surveillance and censorship across the globe. Join a handful of Tor contributors at this panel, and learn all about the state of the onion. We'll talk about how we're adding new security features like browser sandboxing, improving support for mobile devices, deploying the next generation of onion services, making Tor more usable, lowering our network overhead, making our software more maintainable, and growing our community with new outreach initiatives. We'll also share some of what you can expect from Tor in the coming year, and we're eager to hear questions from our community, too.
