This BoF is for anyone interested in using or contributing to FreedomBox. It will start with a brief introduction to FreedomBox, overview of recent progress and roadmap. The rest of the time will be an open discussion. Here are some suggested topics: - How are you using / would like to use FreedomBox? - What hardware are you using, or would like to use? - What Debian packages would you like to see integrated into FreedomBox? - What software would be useful for FreedomBox, but is missing from Debian? - How can FreedomBox become more user friendly? - How can we promote FreedomBox to more people and groups?

FreedomBox, the pure blend to bring Debian to home servers, has had a productive year. In collaboration with Olimex, an OSHW manufacturer, we have launched FreedomBox home server kits that users can buy and set up at home. This move saw a significant increase in user participation in the project. We have made a lot of progress so far in FreedomBox - simplified user experience, easy to acquire hardware, automatic configuration, well-managed security and a sizeable number of apps to wean us off of the proprietary surveillance-based cloud services we have come to depend on. We have quite a few plans for the coming year. We want to improve our hardware offering by working with Olimex and also reach out to potential new partners. We will try to add some features such as Audio/Video conferencing, crucial missing apps and even prepare FreedomBox for NAS use cases at home while getting ready for a solid Bullseye release. This talk discusses the progress of the project over the last year, what has been achieved as part of the bigger picture, our plans for the coming year and how the larger Debian community can contribute to the effort.

This talk is for Debian users and contributors interested in FreedomBox, which configures Debian as an easy-to-use personal server. The first part will cover the current status of the project, including current feature set in Stretch, supported platforms, and ongoing development work. The next part will be a technical overview of FreedomBox and the main packages that it depends on. A live demo of using the FreedomBox via the web interface will be shown. There will also be information on the current setup process, and live image builds. Next, I will also suggest ways in which the wider Debian community can help support FreedomBox, such as packaging needs and configuration. At the end, we will have a Q&A and open discussion on opportunities for collaboration between FreedomBox and other parts of Debian.
