Digitalisierung in der Schule ist spannend, schwierig, und enorm umstritten. Insbesondere in der Verwaltung fehlt es an freien Tools. AlekSIS ist ein umfangreiches freies Schul-Informations-System, das organisatrische Prozesse digitalisieren kann.

Mit dem Release 2021.12 "Bruner" hat das AlekSIS-Team die erste offizielle Version des freien Schul-Informations-Systems veröffentlicht. In der Standard-Distribution sind die Verwaltung von Lehrkräften, Schülerinnen und Schülern, Klassen und Kursen, Stundenpläne, Vertretungspläne sowie Werkzeuge für Digital Signage uvm. enthalten. Doch AlekSIS bietet nicht nur fertige Funktionalität, sondern stellt als Framework eine erweiterbare Plattform bereit, für die Schulen eigene Module entwickeln (lassen) können. In diesem Vortrag sehen wir uns an, was AlekSIS kann, wie es sich als freie Lösung in bestehende Software-Landschaft der Schule integriert, und wie durch den Einsatz im Informatik-Unterricht Programmieren mit echtem Mehrwert gelernt werden kann.

Was sind die FrogLabs? ====================== - Interessierst du dich für Informatik und Progrsammieren? - Hast du Spaß daran, mit Elektronik zu experimentieren? Die FrogLabs sind ein Workshop-Programm für Kinder und Jugendliche von etwa 9 bis 16 Jahren, bei dem du gemeinsam mit vielen anderen Gleichgesinnten in deinem Alter an spannenden Projekten aus den Bereichen Informatik und Technik basteln, forschen und lernen kannst. Du verbringst den Tag in einer Gruppe von vielen Schülerinnen und Schülern, die dieselben Interessen teilen wie du. Bei den Mini-FrogLabs handelt es sich nur um ein Tagesprogramm ohne Übernachtung. Falls ihr wissen wollt, wie die letzte große Freizeit aussah, könnt ihr euch den [Bericht von 2018](https://www.teckids.org/de/neuigkeiten/2018/08/31/froglabs-2018-froscon/) ansehen. Wann und wo finden die FrogLabs statt? ====================================== Die FrogLabs finden immer zusammen mit so genannten Open-Source-Konferenzen statt. Das sind Treffen, bei denen sich viele Leute über Themen wie freie Software, Programmierung, Sicherheit und vieles mehr austauschen. Die FrogLabs stammen ursprünglich von der FrOSCon, der Konferenz mit dem wohl umfangreichsten Kinder- und Jugendprogramm in Deutschland. Die Mini-FrogLabs sind eine kleine Variante, bei der \"nur\" Workshops stattfinden, aber kein Rahmenprogramm mit Übernachtung und ähnlichem. Dieses Mal finden die Mini-FrogLabs am **23. April 2022** von 11 bis 17 Uhr auf den [Grazer Linux-Tagen in Graz](https://www.linuxtage.at/) (in der Technischen Universität) statt. Workshops, die dich erwarten ============================ Die Workshops, die dich bei den FrogLabs erwarten, richten sich an alle Teilnehmerinnen und Teilnehmer gleichermaßen. Egal, ob du schon viel über das Thema weißt oder sogar schon einmal bei den FrogLabs warst. Unser Ziel ist es, dass bei den Workshops jeder gleich viel Spaß haben kann und gleich viel beitragen kann. **Für alle, die schon einmal da waren:** Alle neuen und auch alten Teilnehmer bekommen die Möglichkeit, sich in verschiedenen Themen zu beschäftigen. Auch Teilnehmer, die schon öfter bei den FrogLabs waren, werden sich nicht langweilen. In Graz bieten wir nur einen Workshop an: **Elektronische Schaltungen bauen und programmieren mit ESP und MicroPython**. Public schools are one natural way to get people in contact with free software, and helping them shape their digital environment with it. The AlekSIS project develops a free, open School Information System that doubles as a platform for students of any age to develop apps to digitise their own schools.

School Information Systems are programs that help to digitise several processes in public or private schools, reaching from timetables and substitution plans over school meal plans, digital class registers, up to payment systems, and much more.

Starting out as two independent solutions for School Information Systems, AlekSIS is an actively developed free software project, made by students, teachers, and software engineers together. It is designed to be both a stable and secure software solution, readily available for schools, and a platform that can be used in classes to learn and teach coding. Students can make their own apps, that are seamlessly integrated into the platform, to help digitise real-world scenarios at their schools.

In this talk, we will show what AlekSIS is, and explain the scheme behind making it a learning platform for young app developers at the same time.

Kommunikationsplattformen haben einen wichtigen Stellenwert in der Bildung – nicht nur unter den Bedingungen der Corona-Pandemie. Matrix, und der bekannte Client Element, sind als Kommunikationsplattform, und das über den Chat hinaus. für den Einsatz sowohl in der Hochschul- als auch in der allgemeinen Schulbildung hervorragend geeignet. Wir sehen uns an, wie das schul-frei-Projekt Matrix und Element in seinen Bildungs-Softwarestack Lanki.cloud einbindet und welche Möglichkeiten Matrix und Element jetzt und im Hinblick auf zukünftige Entwicklungen bieten.

As part of the schul-frei project of Teckids e.V. we curate free software and offer it to educational institutions. Besides the general equipment of schools with free software, an equal involvement of students in the development is for us important. One of the solutions presented by the project schul-frei is AlekSIS, a web-based school information system that is being developed jointly by Teckids e.V. and students of the Katharineum in Lübeck. The django-based platform provides data structures that can be used by separately developed apps. The special feature of this project compared to other information systems is that apps can be developed that cover specific application areas of a school. AlekSIS is a framework for apps that can be developed together with students in computer science classes, for example, because the development of such apps with python is easy to follow. Since AlekSIS is just a part of the free software curation, it can be excellently combined with other services or network accounts that are used in school. In our talk we will show, how this framework concretely looks like and how people can contribute to this project or use this system, for example at schools.

In der digitalen Bildungslandschaft findet ein wahres Ringen um Platz in den Klassen- und Kinderzimmern statt; Anbieter, besonders kommerzielle Unternehmen, wetteifern um Zuschläge für ihre Lösungen. Gleichzeitig gibt es eine riesige Auswahl an freien Lösungen, die wegen des fehlenden Marketingkapitals vergleichsweise unsichtbar sind und oft nur schwer auszuwählen und aufzufinden sind. Das schul-frei-Projekt präsentiert und supportet daher für jede Anforderung ein hochwertiges freies Produkt und motiviert zur Integration vorhandener freier Komponenten zu wettbewerbsfähigen Gesamtsystemen.

Schools is where IT and software users of tomorrow are made, and next to teaching digital skills, educating on privacy and consequences of the use of different types of software and servcies plays an important role. We would like to report on various projects from the field.

Helping schools and teachers with using free software is far more involved than just selling a product. Where big companies have huge budgets for advertising and marketing, free software projects have to attract educators with the power of the community.

The most exciting upside of this is that our community does not only sell a product, but wants to get people involved. One of the benefits of free software for educators is that all our community goals play into their hands - free software is the basis of extending independence, democracy and all values modern schools are supposed to convey into the digital lives of students.

As a person or project getting involved with free software in education, there are many challenges and opportunities. Teckids and the projects around it have collected experience from the work with schools, teachers, political decision makers and free software developers that we would like to share with the community.

Während sich Schulen aller Schulformen einen wahren Wettkampf darin leisten, möglichst schnell möglichst viele digitale Geräte in den Unterricht zu bringen, bleibt eine Frage oft unberücksichtigt oder geht im Eifer des Gefechts unter: Wie sieht es eigentlich mit der Freiheit und den Rechten der – meistens minderjährigen – Lernenden aus?

Der Vortrag berichtet aus der Arbeit am Skolelinux-Projekt, von der ersten Pilotschule Freie Software und von bemerkenswerten Fehlgriffen. Darüber hinaus werden verschiedene Aspekte der Soft- und Hardware-Auswahl aus rechtlicher und pädagogischer Sicht betrachtet.

Wir zeigen, welche Instant-Messaging-Dienste von Kindern und Jugendlichen genutzt werden und was diese brauchen, um stattdessen freie Alternativen zu nutzen. Das Einstiegsalter bei der Nutzung von Smartphones, Computern und Online-Diensten wird immer geringer. Während schon Kleinkinder Lern- und Spielapps benutzen, herrscht in der Schule mittlerweile ein regelrechter Technikzwang, insbesondere bei der Nutzung von Instant Messaging. Dieser wird durch Mitschüler und Lehrkräfte, ausgeübt. Die Wahl fällt fast immer auf proprietäre und unsichere Dienste wie WhatsApp. Zusammen mit Kindern und Jugendlichen haben wir analysiert, was freie Alternativen leisten müssen, um Attraktivität bei ihnen zu erlangen, und was Projekte dafür tun können. ### Über mich 28 Jahre alt, Systemadministrator, Pädagoge und Vorsitzender des Teckids e.V., der Freie-Software-Jugendorganisation.

Kinder nutzen Software. Doch können sie auch aktiver Teil der FOSS-Gemeinschaft sein? Welche Erfahrngen gibt es? Und was können Projekte tun, um für minderjährige Kontributoren offen zu sein? Kinder wollen und sollen ihre Umwelt mitgestalten. Gerade im IT-Bereich wird das Einstiegsalter in der reinen Nutzung immer geringer. Natürlich gibt es auch freie Software mit einer jungen Zielgruppe, wie z.B. Software im Bildungseinsatz oder Spiele. Der Teckids e.V. ist eine Jugendorganisation rund um freie Software, die Kinder und Jugendliche zu einem aktiven Teil der Freie-Software-Gemeinschaft machen möchte. Warum junge Nutzerinnen und Nutzer auch als Kontributoren willkommen sein sollten, ist der erste Diskussionspunkt. Freie Software lebt darüberhinaus von der Community. Deshalb bemühen sich Projekte, die Hürden für en Einstieg als Kontributor möglichst niedrig zu halten. Plattformen wir GitHub vereinfachen das Einreichen von Bugs und Feature Requests und das Beisteuern von Patches. Doch ein Teil der Community, nämlich Minderjährige, haben es noch immer schwer, an für sie interessanten Projekten mitzuwirken - bspw. an edukativer Software, Spielen u.ä. Welche rechtlichen Hürden moderne Tools aufzwingen und was Projekte tun können, um auch die Jüngsten an Bord zu holen, wollen wir hier erörtern. ### Über mich 28 Jahre alt, Systemadministrator, Pädagoge und Vorsitzender des Teckids e.V., der Freie-Software-Jugendorganisation.

Young people obviously are big users of technology. While this carries its own legal questions, wanting children to be creative and maybe contribute to technology is a really difficult topic. Licences, hosting terms of service, contributor agreements - all these legal documents are made by adults, for adults, and minors often struggle to be able to agree them, even with parental consent. We want to look at what the issues are and raise awareness for the importance of contributions by children.

For many developers, contributing to open source projects is a trivial thing to do. Fire up GitHub, fork that project, do some changes, commit, push, create pull request - done! Also, for most project maintainers, getting contributions looks as easy - jsut have someone log in to GitHub, fork,… and so on.

But everyone of us also knows that most of the time, we do not care too much about analysing the terms we submit to. As a contributor, we don't really care about the project's licence as long as it is free, and as a maintainer, we expect contributors to do exactly that. Same goes for the terms of use of our favourite Git hosting service, translation tool, you name it.

One thing that makes things very easy for adult developers is that we are legally able to accept just about anything that might be written in such terms - but at least one subgroup of developers can't: children younger than a certain age limit.

• All US based websites are legally forced to prohibit registration by people younger than 13 years (simply put)
• German children are not allowed to accept any terms that cut legal rights they normally have
• …

If any free software project has children as a target group, we (the people at Teckids e.V.) strongly believe it should make contributions by minors as easy as its usage. This involves caring about all legal documents that might get in the way.

In this podium, we would like to raise some awareness and discuss experiences, ideas, possibilities, and the like in order to make the FOSS world a good place for everyone, independent of their age.

We want to discuss experiences, issues, and ideas concerning the use of free/open IM services among children and in education.

Instant Messaging is the one means of communication children and adolescents use in their free-time, and gets more important in education while classmates (or even worse, teachers) create chatrooms for their classes on non-free, privacy-unaware services. Teckids e.V. is tackling this issue in Germany, and we want to share our experiences in doing so.

What makes children use IM? What do they want or need? What are the difficulties in switching to a free/open service? What tools did we try, and how do they fit in?

We also want to listen to other people's experiences, and share thoughts on what developers of tools might need to take into account in order to make existing tools ready for use by children and in education.

Location-based applications grow in importance, not only for the augmented reality gaming community, but also for businesses adding location-aware functionality to their web applications, mobile apps and the like. We show how to work with the vast set of OpenStreetMap data with minimal Python programming and very little resources using the OSMAlchemy library.

In this workshop, we will create a web application that uses the live set of OpenStreetMap data to allow users to review places like restaurants, bars and the like. Doing so, we will use the following technologies:

• the Python programming language
• the Flask micro-framework for web applications
• an SQLite database
• the SQLAlchemy object-relational mapper
• the OSMAlchemy library
• the Angular.JS framework

When writing applications that use OpenStreetMap, one had to decide whether to only use a really small subset of the data or maintain their own local copy of the whole planet data, which accumulates to more than 1 TB of data and consumes a lot of resources to work with it. OSMAlchemy provides access to the live data through the Overpass API in combination with a local, SQLAlchemy-based cache. It also allows access to the complete set of OpenStreetMap data by simply querying SQLAlchemy, without even caring about Overpass API access.

After attending the workshop, you will be able to implement arbitrary applications using whatever OpenStreetMap features you like. You should have some basic knowledge about Python and relational databases. Having heard about Flask, REST and SQLAlchemy gives you an extra bonus, but is not strictly necessary. If you want to try the examples during the workshop, please make sure to have the most recent (stable) versions of Python 3, Flask, Flask-SQLAlchemy, Flask-Restless and OSMAlchemy installed beforehand.

When the Ingress game started in 2013, quite a few people world-wide found out that augmented reality gaming in the real world was a great new invention, and the game grew to become a success for the then-project inside Google. With its Pokémon themed update in 2016, Niantic got the whole world playing - and sponsoring them with all their personal details. Veripeditus opens up the world of AR game creation to the public.

The Pokémon Go hype is spreading and more and more people are playing - on a real map with real objects. With the ever growing possibilities of smart phones and apps, interest for Augmented Reality is getting bigger. But there are obvious problems: current developers don't care about privacy and data is collected, sold and freely provided to others at will.

About time to make a change! Veripeditus is entirely free, open source software and easy to use. The server can be run entirely by yourself and everyone can develope games and custom clients if they wish. The frameworkd allows for the development of augmented reality games, so called "cartridges", that can be played in the real world in any scope, be it locally, like on the premises of a museum, or on global scope, like an augemented reality MMORPG.

In the development of Veripeditus, we aim at making game development as easy as possible. The only thing needed is basic knowledge of Python and, of course, ideas for the game. Veripeditus itself also employs basic, well-known technologies like a relational database, the SQLAlchemy object-relational mapper and a (glorified) RESTful API.

This talk will give an introduction to how Veripeditus was developed, how games can be created and what can be done with it - some ideas include using Veripeditus in education, local group activities, tourism amd, of course, plain fun gaming.

We will also showcase a mini game that will be playable on the ULB campus!
