apt-offline is an Offline APT Package Manager. . apt-offline can fully update and upgrade an APT based distribution without connecting to the network, all of it transparent to APT. . apt-offline can be used to generate a signature on a machine (with no network). This signature contains all download information required for the APT database system. This signature file can be used on another machine connected to the internet (which need not be a Debian box and can even be running windows) to download the updates. The downloaded data will contain all updates in a format understood by APT and this data can be used by apt-offline to update the non-networked machine. . apt-offline can also fetch bug reports and make them available offline.

Even stable is updated once in a while. Those updates are called "Point Releases". They usually incorporate the security fixes released until the time of the update and fixes for important bugs in the current release. Whilst there are over hundreds of bugs fixed in each point update, there are even more that can be fixed with your help! This talk takes you through that and tells you how exactly can you help fix those bugs/security issues and help in preparing a solid point update!

Understanding the importance of localisation in tech.

OpenStreetMap (OSM) is a collaborative project to create a free editable map of the world. So let's discuss and contribute collaboratively.

The talk will serve as an introduction to Debian ecosystem and the community that makes it possible. How a collection of more than 60000 packages gets updated and released in the biggest GNU/Linux distribution on earth. Who are the people behind it, what they do, why we do it and how to join to contribute in various ways possible. And ofcourse the Debian India community and events would be introduced. This talk is for folks new to Debian and want to learn more about it while also giving back to the community.

The Talk will feature the state of Internet freedom in India and why the adaptation of Free and Open Source Software is a fundamental weapon in fighting for our digital rights. The talk will give a brief background on the reasons why FOSS is not widely used in India as it should be. It will proceed to discuss elementary steps for widespread use of FOSS in India. Our audience will be students as well as primary users of FOSS who are just starting out their journey with FOSS tools. This talk will illuminate why FOSS is always the better alternative and its usefulness in fighting for Internet Freedom.

FOSSology is a collaboration project of the Linux Foundation covering license compliance tasks: It is a Web server system for users and a toolkit. As a toolkit you can run license, copyright and export control scans from the command line. As a system, a database and Web user interface provides you with a compliance workflow. This session explains how we can bring the goodness of license/copyright scanning using fossology agents directly into gitlab in an automated way through a small demo project on Salsa.

This talk will try to give an idea on the current state of Debian Community in India. briefly it will cover the following topics - Current state of Debian in India - Geographical presence of Community members in India - Diversity of people in the community - Contribution to Debian by Indian Debian Community - Achievements - Problems with the current state, and probable ways to resolve them. etc.

The goal of this talk is to introduce why free software is important for our communications and various software tools to achieve it. Issues with non-free software would be highlighted. Free Software is often not sufficient to provide us with full control of our communication systems. Software/services would be judged on various criteria like user freedoms, privacy, decentralization, data ownership and federation. Software security by end-to-end encryption and forward secrecy would be discussed. Pros and cons for each would be highlighted to help the audience decide the right tool for their job. Some software programs/services to be discussed Briar, GNU Jami, Signal, Matrix clients, XMPP clients and others.

In this BoF we will investigate the attitude of common people towards digital privacy in India. What are these business models that encourage privacy invasion software and services. We'll discuss how network effect keeps people dependent on these services. How free software allows freedom to take back control over data in a private manner. How this can be mitigated with the help of Free software and services. We'll also touch upon what sorts of law will provide us real privacy.

Copyright refers to a legal right that enables an exclusive legal right to reproduce, sell, publish or distribute any literary, dramatic, musical, artistic work in any form. This would also mean that any entity apart from the copyright owner cannot use the copyrighted material without prior consent. Copyleft on the other hand recognizing the ownership of the creator lets other entities freely distribute the copies as well as the modifications of the original work granted that the same rights be given for the derivative works henceforth. Copyleft is a protective license that aims to strike a balance between protecting the rights of the creator as well as making information freely available for furthering knowledge. Copyleft is a great way of ensuring that work always remains free. We will be taking the audience through using copyleft instead of copyright and why copyleft is a better alternative to be used. We will be demonstrating on how various copyleft means can be used as Creative commons licencing. The idea behind a Creative Commons licence is that there should be a free distribution of work which can allow for increased knowledge sharing. Works under Creative Commons licences allow for a more enriched public domain. It forms a part of copyleft philosophy. A Creative Commons license also helps in furthering the ideology of open access. Open access can help in reimagining research by opening the doors, the first step in this is allowing for free distribution of work. Outcome Through this talk, we intend to reach out to developers, technologists, and students of technology-based in Hindi speaking regions. Through this talk, we expect to: Educate the audience about the difference between copyright and copyleft licenses; Software licenses and rights granted herein in the context of copyright and copyleft licenses; Permissive licenses and protective share-alike licenses (copyleft); Application of Copyleft and its types and relation to other licenses

For some, talking about diversity within the development community seems to be not part of what Debian is about, and that is Free Software. In this BoF we want to discuss how diversity within the community actually is enhancing and moving forward the project more than assumed, and how different live circumstances actually can lead to different views on how to approach things and thus also stir more creative approaches, for the benefit of all.

FOSSology is an open source license compliance software system and toolkit. As a toolkit, you can run automated license, copyright and export control scans from the command line. As a system, a Web interface provides you with a compliance workflow. License, copyright and export control scanners are tools used in the workflow. Analyzing open source license compliance requires expert knowledge. Consequently, the use of the tool requires an understanding of license analysis problems and how they are covered by FOSSology. This hands-on training session will provide this understanding. ### The following elements are covered: - Challenges in real-world examples at license analysis - Learning how to cope with license proliferation and custom license texts - Efficiently managing large open source components with heterogeneous licensing - Saving work with reusing license conclusions of open source packages when analyzing - How FOSSology works with the SPDX standard - Generating reports (DEP5, SPDX, Word doc, etc) - New features in the past year of FOSSology ### Audience This course will be valuable to anyone concerned with and involved in Open Source Management, including operational and legal executives, software development managers, open source program managers, and developers. Participants are encouraged to directly work on the given FOSSology software, in the best case on their own notebook computers for using FOSSology after the session as well. Assistance for installation will be provided, but it is advisable to have Docker setup.

When packaging nodejs modules, often you face some complexities with the build process. I will try to cover some common cases like 1. Manually downloading a git commit snapshot when the repo does not have tags matching with npmjs.com releases 2. Exclude generated files from the source package (repacking) 3. Embed a simple dependency as a component (ignore, group and checksum options in watch file) 4. Simple case of circular self build dependency (babel-plugin-lodash build depends on itself) 5. Using extlinks and extcopies options of pkg-js-tools for creating node_modules directory with symlinks or copies of modules installed in /usr/share/nodejs This workshop is going to be intermediate level. Wikidata is a free and open knowledge base that can be read and edited by both humans and machines. Wikidata acts as central storage for the structured data of its Wikimedia sister projects including Wikipedia, Wikivoyage, Wiktionary, Wikisource, and others. Wikidata also hosts datamodel for A number of entities. I will try to provide and introduction to the internals of Wikidata and how to contribute. This aim of this project is the develop human readable text from the data available in Wikidata with the help of Lexicographical data available in Wikidata. The talk on Documentation manual of Debian in Telugu. As localization is important to reach more extent and make the people understand about Project Documentation Project in Telugu by making them to use the Debian for their technical projects.

A small introduction to Linux virtualization for beginners who are migrating from other proprietary OSes in Malayalam. My focus of the tool is Linux KVM (for Kernel-based Virtual Machine). This includes guides to install and set up KVM in a Debian system and to create a virtual machine and pass-through some hardware to it. So users can experience near native performance on virtual machine. I hope this helps some new users to migrate to FOSS keeping their old dependencies as it is on a virtual machine. Eventually find better alternatives.

We Generally use Single board computers for different Home and Project Purposes. But do we know the schematics and PCB Layouts? Free and Open Source Hardware like [Olimex](https://www.olimex.com/Products/OLinuXino/open-source-hardware "") gives full freedom to all these schematics and designs. Debian also have distributions for these arm based machines which makes this whole hardware and software stack fully Free and Open Source. Let us learn about olimex images based on debian.

Introduction to GnuPG and web of trust.

The speaker installed Debian on his Asus Chromebook Flip C100PA. This talk will: - Give details on how this was done. - Highlight some lessons learnt along the way. - Explain how parts of the procedure can be used for other Chromebooks. Chromebooks are devices with a version of GNU/Linux pre-installed. The open source version of what has been installed is available for building on one's own. The ChromeOS team also makes efforts to get their patches to the software used (especially the kernel) "upstreamed". Hence, these devices are often good cheap hardware on which to run Debian. Audience would be anyone who wants to run Debian on their Chromebook.

Time : 60 Minutes In Software Industry, the developer team puts their efforts on the deployments for small minute code changes. There are multiple stages involved in deployment as clean, build, test, deploy it which requires all your attention and intimate the dev team about the failures if so in between. The CI/CD(Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment) helps the developer team to make changes automatically by reducing the man power. Let's learn how to write gitlab-ci.yml file and then debian-salsa-ci.yml file

Goal: There is a humongous collection of Debian Flavors. Creating one for yourself is not a big deal. Debian also welcomes and encourages to develop new distributions based on Debian. After this workshop you would be learning to create a Debian distro. Duration: 60 minutes

TuxMake is a command line tool that eases building Linux kernel. Though it is already simple to build Linux kernel using `make defconfig; make`, it becomes complicated when there are too many combinations that has to be supported, such as the following: * Architectures * Toolchains * Configurations * Targets * Build-time validation TuxMake simplifies building the Linux kernel by providing a consistent command line interface with different combinations listed above. TuxMake makes it more interesting by providing a curated, portable build environment that is distributed as Docker/Podman container images. Thus, it becomes easy to report and reproduce build failures using TuxMake's consistent command line. ### Who is your audience? Those who have already built Linux kernel and know how to build Linux kernel in their local machines. ### What will they get out of it? They will get to learn about TuxMake free software tool (soon to be included in Debian), that can ease their Linux kernel building workflow and provide an easy way to get reproducible command line with TuxMake. ### What will you cover? In this presentation, we will take a look on how to use TuxMake. We will cover different use-cases starting with a simple build, then looking at cross builds, incremental builds, etc.

Most contemporary frameworks use a single language paradigm and are therefore trapped in a bubble of knowledge and idiom. This can work well for certain niche applications, but it also fosters a kind of tribalism. This can be seen in the way that the FOSS development communities huddle on their stacks, ultimately breeding very little cross-pollination. This same situation can be seen in the Rust vs Node vs C++ battlefields, where hardliners take their stances and refuse to collaborate across communities. Let's look at how Polyglots is going to change the landscape of the Developer outlook and production of our software itself.

`pristine-tar` is a magical tool that can regenerate a pristine upstream tarball using only a small binary delta file and a revision control checkout of the upstream branch. Since its creation, it’s become part of the Mercurial- and Git-based workflows of many individual maintainers and teams, as it provides a way to essentially produce Debian source packages using Git-based tooling only, without the need to be able to talk to the archive or a package mirror. Despite its usefulness, `pristine-tar` suffers from [some inherent drawbacks](https://terceiro.xyz/2017/10/09/pristine-tar-updates/). It attempts to reconstruct output of unknown versions of compressors such as gzip, including all of their quirks and weirdness, generating byte-by-byte identical compressed files. This task is very difficult as compressors evolve and their output changes. `pristine-lfs` attempts to be a replacement for `pristine-tar`, while attacking the problem in a different way. It utilises the Git LFS mechanism to store the tarballs next to the Git repository in the dedicated file storage. Git LFS is supported by GitLab (and hence by Salsa), GitHub and other online Git hosting providers.

Rust-lang is now gaining immense popularity in the world of systems programming, with all kinds of software, be it game engines or network utilities. With code that is written in a beautiful and articulate manner, building on years of research and technical expertise from it's inception at Mozilla Research and now being organized under it's own foundation, with influences from some of the greatest minds in computing. In this BoF session, we intend to introduce the language to new comers who have some exposure to programming languages in general(like C, Python, JavaScript) and would want to become proper Rustaceans. We also intend to provide a platform for programmers who have been experimenting with the language to share with us their story. This event will be a team effort, organized mainly by members of the Kerala Rustaceans(t.me/keralars) telegram group. We would really love to get more hands on board from genuinely interested Rust community members to organize the event, join us now!

Would like to go through a simple basic matrix setup. I will explain briefly what a federation is and what the matrix protocol is. I think anyone would benefit from taking a look at the matrix.org project, it's nice to have your own chat server.

A talk on the dominance of proprietary softwares in (government) institutions of India and how replacing them with free and open source softwares will improve quality of service economically and socially. Also a few words on encouraging youths in technological field to invest time in GNU Linux instead of having pure monetary-oriented mindset.
